Abstract
The title of the master's thesis is ""Deliverance ministry" in Latvia". Its aim is to draw attention to Christian interest in the concept of evil spirits, demons and fallen angels taking an important role in the practice and consciousness of Christian congregations. The paper points at this phenomenon and lays the groundwork for bringing more attention to it. The argument – in Latvia the Christian interest in the concept of demonic presence deserves greater attention and evaluation in academic theology. The paper consists of three chapters, which give insight into history of demon expulsion ministry, look at the practice of exorcism in the Catholic Church until today, and present the beginnings of the “Deliverance ministry” and its expansion in Latvia. Attention is brought to the circumstance that in this conception one vague and controversial text from Genesis is being highlighted among other texts of the Bible. The thesis suggests looking at some socio-psychological factors, to find out what causes this kind of interest in the concept of demons and why it is being propagated in congregations. Keywords: deliverance ministry, origin of demons, exorcism, mysterious, manipulation.
