Focus of this paper is upon explanation of the term Nomos in Chapter 7, Paul's Letter to Romans. It examines different meanings of the term Nomos and their effect upon Paul's soteriology through the context of Jewish tradition. Analysis reveals that use of the term Nomos depends upon the theological idea of the text and it should not be always related to the classical perception of Moses Law. The midrash approach to the explanation of text, which is used in Jewish tradition, reveals parallel notions of the term Nomos, which helps to arrive at different theological conclusions. The paper provides initiative for further studies that could provide a new theological interpretation of the New Testament through the dimension of Jewish tradition. This paper contains two parts: the first part describes the Jewish theological background in the context of the term Nomos, the second part provides analysis of the text by means of exegesis method.
