Abstract
As many other European countries Latvia has to deal with coastal erosion. The current work is aimed to investigate the morphological, dynamical and lythological features of the beach sediments of the coast segment between Zvejniekciems and Inčupe river mouth on the eastern coast of the gulf of Riga. The area is influenced by the harbour of Skulte which results in the lack of sediments in the north. In the south, by the Pēterupe mouth, sediment accretion is taking place. The work presents the results of analyses which show that the most intensive coastal erosion has taken place during the last five years. The most intensively eroded are three kilometers of the shore south to Skulte and area north to Inčupe. The speed of the sediment transport increases south to Skulte as well as between Ķīšupe and Pēterupe. The trend of coastal erosion exists for at least forty years here, but the last decade has shown more progress.
