Abstract
Pētījuma pirmā daļa veltīta dabiskas, vecuma izraisītas akomodācijas spēju samazināšanās (presbiopijas) procesa izpētei no klīniskās puses.
The first part of the thesis is aimed to study physiological, age related decline of eye accommodation (presbyopia) from clinical side. The tentative near addition based on the age expected norm values has been critically evaluated based on the results of the study and a new model is proposed that allows more accurate prediction of the amount of near correction expected for an individual's age. The additional results show a correlation between the degree of development of presbyopia and the effect of correction on the near task performance, allowing to estimate the potential impact on the quality of life of people over 45 years. The second part of the thesis proposes a methodology for supplementing subjective accommodation function tests with a dynamically obtained objective measurements, as well as evaluate the advantages of this method, technically limiting factors and significance of the additional information obtained. The third part focuses on the impact of current digital technologies on the visual system. The differences between smartphone viewing distance for active and passive task were assessed for young adults, showing that the average viewing distance for smartphone is significantly closer than the classically assumed near work distance of 40 cm, and the active task is performed at closer distance than the passive task. The status of ocular accommodation and visual fatigue after prolonged work with volumetric display, which is innovation in the field of three-dimensional imaging technology made in Latvia, has been evaluated. The results have highlighted previously undescribed, potentially positive effect on ocular relaxation after work with a real three-dimensional image.
