Abstract
Šī izvēle nostāda to konfliktā ar sabiedrību.
The Acts of Paul and Thecla are a part of the larger Acts of Paul. This text was written in the end of the 2. century AD and tells the story of a virgin named Thecla that follows the unquestionably ascetic teaching of the Apostle Paul. In accordance to the law of the city she has to marry a man but she denies it because of Paul’s teaching. This choice puts her in conflict with the city. She is condemned to death, but is miracolously saved. Paul’s teaching is formulated in thirteen ascetic macarisms that are studied in this work. Those are of ascetic nature, including sexual asceticism. The story of Thecla as Paul followers follows it. Thecla's actions embody criticism of the prevailing culture’s views on women’s life and marriage. This criticism is not neccessarily a witness to a historical situation, but to discourse.
