Abstract
Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world. After World War II chemical weapons were dumped in the sea forming several dumpsites. There are some of those dumpsites not far from Latvia too and one of them was studied in bachelor work. The aim of this research was to ascertain whether in the found munition dumpsites chemical weapons have been dumped at all. That was examined by determing the concentration of arsenic in the sediments and by comparing it with reference teritory. In this research archive data about munition dumpsite near Liepaja were acquired. From reported coordinates sediment samples were taken. Concentration of arsenic and other metals were determined. The obtained results allows to conclude about the arsenic’s origination in the place of research. Keywords: chemical weapons, Baltic Sea, arsenic, sediments.
