Abstract
Master’s thesis is „Narrative Identity as the Confirmation of Personal Identity”. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the possibilities of its solution within the framework of narrative identity theory, defining the problem of personal identity. Tasks are to describe the problem of personal identity in Derek Parfit’s works, evaluate the possibilities of Paul Ricoeur's narrative theory to solve these problems and substantiate the importance of the social aspect for the confirmation of personal identity. Narrative is an essential resource for the expression of a personal identity. Narrative identity can offer a relatively reliable form of personal identification through the narrative meaning of collective memory and personal participation in the community. Thanks to the narrative, the events experienced in the construction and existence of a personal identity and the story a person tell about themselves can be interpreted and challenged.
