Abstract
In this thesis results of studies, carried out for time interval 1996–2009, are presented covering morphology and classification of gullies, as well regularities of erosion landforms development and their spatial distribution in south-eastern Latvia. Studies of gullies were performed in the Latgale and the Augšzeme Uplands, and the River Daugava Valley by the applying field survey methods, analysis of topographic maps and means of geomatics. The results of studies indicate that the process of gully development to a high degree is determined by geological, geomorphological and climate controlling factors. According to the 14C dates and the results of paleohydrological modelling gullies in south-eastern Latvia had formed before the beginning of human impact and that the infilling of them took place during the Subatlantic time ca 2000 y ago. Key words: gully erosion, classification of gullies, morphogenetic types of gullies, erosion network pattern, controlling factors, south-eastern Latvia
