Abstract
The title of present work: "Correlation of vitamin D levels with chronic low back pain in adults", Kristīne Vaidere. Supervisor: Jāzeps Pogumirskis, MD, 46 pages, 13 figures, 13 tables, 5 appendices, 39 references. In Latvian. Chronic back pain is one of the most common causes of disability in the world, a problem that affects the working age population the most. People with chronic pain may be at increased risk of vitamin D deficiency, especially if they are obese, have less sun exposure, are physically inactive or eat a diet low in vitamin D-rich foods. Materials and methods: The study design is a quantitative, cross-sectional study. It was designed to analyse data on patients with chronic low back pain and its association with serum vitamin 25(OH)D3 levels. To achieve the aim of the study, a questionnaire was offered to the study participants, patients of Neuropractice Ltd from 01 March 2022 to 01 May 2022, which was subsequently analysed using different statistical methods. Aim of the study: To determine whether there is a correlation between serum 25(OH)D3 levels and chronic low back pain intensity and risk factors in adults. Results: Vitamin 25(OH)D3 levels correlate with nonspecific low back pain intensity after VAS (r = -0.653, p < 0.001) and educational level (r = -0.342, p < 0.015) in adults. The higher the pain intensity and the lower the educational level, the lower the serum 25(OH)D3 level. There is no strong, significant or statistically significant correlation between risk factors for chronic low back pain such as increased body mass index (r = 0, 043, p 0, 769), gender (r = - 0, 137, p 0, 343) and marital status (r = 0, 112 , p 0, 437) and serum 25(OH)D3 levels.
