Abstract
After World War II large amount of chemical weapons was dumped in the Gotland's basin forming Gotland's chemical weapons dumpsite. One of the major kind of substances found in chemical weapons were different arsenic compounds. In this research changes in arsenic concentration over the years in sediments were studied. The aim of this research is to determine "historical records" of arsenic in sediment layers of Gotland's chemical weapons dumpsite's risk area looking for correlation with chemical weapons dumping and find out the origin of arsenic in research area. During the research, the central sediment core was taken to determine historical dynamic of arsenic and seven samples from surrounding perimeter were taken in order to obtain more information about contaminated terrain. Key words: chemical weapons, Baltic Sea, arsenic, sediments, historical dynamics.
