Abstract
Pericope Adulterae is one of the most popular pericopes of John's Gospel whilst being one of the most contradictory. The purpose of the thesis is to provide exegetical interpretation that may allow for new view on the text of Pericope Adulterae and its ideological purpose. The thesis is formed as exegetical analysis of John 7:53-8:11 clarifying issues of the authenticity of the pericope, its historical accuracy, connection with the context of the Gospel of John and the centre of the pericope. On the basis of the conclusions it is interpreted that the words of Jesus as the centre of John 7:53-8:11 place the stress on an idea of God who does not judge and who provides model for a new relationship model, based on balance between justice and mercy.
