Abstract
The title of the Bachelor Thesis is “Jane Austen and the Ideal Female Character”. I have chosen the topic because it is an amazing phenomenon that the novels published at the beginning of the 19th century are universal: interesting and topical also in the 21st century. The many-sidedness, liveliness and modernism of the main female characters is fascinating. As a result, I have considered it important to broaden my knowledge of Jane Austen’s life and creative work, as well as clarify whether the authoress has created an ideal female character and what its characteristic features are. To work out this paper, I have used Jane Austen’s six completed novels, books on history of literature and culture, Jane Austen’s letters, two biographies, critiques and Internet sources. The research process has been worthwhile because I have discovered many salient facts about Jane Austen’s live and work. After completing the work the conclusion is that Jane Austen has not created one particular ideal female character but it is possible to discern it combining the positive features of all Austen’s various female characters –like gathering shining and colourful gemstones to create a unique mosaic.
