Abstract
Emigration and moving abroad in order to earn money nowadays has become a current topic in the society of Latvia. Latvian writers have approached the subject of emigration as well. In the Bachelor Thesis two works covering the issues of the 21th century’s economical emigrants of Latvia have been researched – Andra Manfelde’s novel „Dzimtenīte” and Vilis Lācītis’s novel „Stroika ar skatu uz Londonu”. A sharply different aesthetical approach to the depiction of emigration and emigrant’s place in the society can be witnessed between both works. Despite the aesthetics that differentiate the novels one from another, they are united by the field of problems that are common to all emigrants, despite of their gender, views of life and level of education. The above mentioned facts give a chance to look at the novels from a little studied perspective in Latvian literature science - sexual difference – and to analyse its aspects in the novels. The sexual difference aspects in the Bachelor Thesis are being analysed by evaluating the literary techniques used in both aforementioned novels as well as by evaluating the differences and correspondences of a man’s and a woman’s opinion on identical subjects, covered in the novel. Key Words: the sexual difference, post-colonialism, feminist literary criticism, satire
