Abstract
The present research studies female’s image in three romances of antiquity: Romance of Troy, Romance of Thebes and Romance of Eneas. They are written in 12th century and considered as an intermediate step between epic songs and courtly romances, where a presence of feminine characters plays an important role. The object of present research consists in semantic study of feminine characters in order to reconstruct the female’s prototypical image in literature. We apply the isotopic approach to detect corpus units that correspond to the problematics of our research. Then we submit the units to the semic analysis and finally we refer to the prototype theory. In terms of the analysis we formulated the hypothesis that female’s image in medieval posterior romances tradition inherit the semes distinguished from studied romances.
